PMI Silicon Valley Outreach: Loma Mar Redwoods - Removal of French BroomPMI Silicon Valley Outreach:Loma Mar Redwoods - Removal of French BroomWhen: March 16, 2024 8:45am-12:00pm
Where: Homestead Trail Parking at San Mateo County Memorial Park
Last Date for On-line Registration is 3/14/24 at 10 PM - Limit 20 Volunteers
Summary:
Please join PMI’s San Francisco Bay Area Chapter and PMI’s Silicon Valley Chapter in this joint event as we support the San Mateo County Parks in removal of the invasive and prolific French Broom from the Loma Mar Redwoods portion of Memorial Park. French Broom displaces native plant and forage species and makes reforestation difficult. Since it can grow more rapidly than most trees used in forestry, it shades out tree seedlings in areas that are revegetated after harvest. Infestations of broom degrade the quality of habitat for wildlife by displacing native forage species and changing microclimate conditions at soil levels. It burns readily and carries fire to the tree canopy layer, increasing both the frequency and intensity of fires. (Source: California Invasive Plant Council) This is a free, in person event. Gloves and weed wrenches will be provided. Parking/carpool info and waiver will be shared after you have completed registration. Please register any guests separately. (Children 15 and under must be accompanied by their parents.) |
