Types of PMI Certifications

PMI certifications are globally acclaimed credentials that validate a project manager's knowledge, skills and experience in contributing success to projects and businesses. In fact, Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification is renowned as the global gold standard in project management.


The Project Management Institute (PMI) offers eight certifications that recognize knowledge and competency:

PMP: Project Management Professional
PgMP: Program Management Professional
PfMP: Portfolio Management Professional
CAPM: Certified Associate Project Manager
PMI-PBA: PMI Professional in Business Analysis
PMI-ACP: PMI Agile Certified Practitioner
PMI-RMP: PMI Risk Management Professional
PMI-SP: PMI Scheduling Professional

Certifications Info Meeting

Free in-person certification advisory session

PMISV hosts a monthly Certification Information group meeting on the 3rd Monday of each month. This meeting provides an understanding of the application process, exam content, structure, exam environment, and available study resources. The host will answer questions at the meeting.

This FREE information session is conducted by the PMI Silicon Valley Chapter’s Director of Certifications, Mandar Kulkarni, MBA, PMP, CSM, PMI-ACP.

Our Chapter trainers offer 2 types of multi-day Bootcamps:

PMI-ACP® Certification Prep 3-day Bootcamp

PMI-PMP® Certification Prep 4-day Boot camp

Click on the event to see the details and registration information. Tips: If you don's see your choice of bootcamp listing in the current month, check next few months onwards for availability.

Maintaining Your Certification

After all the hard work and pride in earning your certification(s), you should continue to engage actively in various PM activities and education in order to keep up with your professional knowledge and status. There is a 60-PDU requirement by PMI in order to renew your certificate(s).

Reporting PDUs & Status Dashboard

  • Visit the CCRS pages at the PMI.org website to report PDUs and review your PDU standing. (member login required)
  • Select Report PDUs at the left navigation
  • For events hosted by PMI Silicon Valley Chapter, enter "C174" at the Organization/Group field and search for the event you had attended
  • Review the following categories for proper reporting steps

PDU CLAIM CODE
  • For PMISV Symposium and large scale events that our Chapter provides a claim code, select the PDU Claim Code category box.
  • In the Claim Code category box, select I have a claim code link
  • Enter your claim code received from the event, and select Apply
  • The found code should refresh your browser page to a pre-populated form, filled with information
  • Verify the pre-populated info and complete missing required fields
  • Select Submit
ORGANIZATION MEETINGS
  • For all PMISV PM Insights Meetings, select the Organization Meetings category box
  • For Organization/Group field, enter “C174”. PMI Silicon Valley Chapter should show up for selection
  • For Title field, enter the full title or keyword to trigger a search. Select the correct match. (note: search is done across all global PMI events database. Similar event names may occur)
  • Complete all the required fields on the form
  • For PDUs, enter 2 PDUs max. based on your time spent at the event. The Talent Triangle elements should reflect the actual experience that you had in the meeting. Give your best judgement.
  • Select Summit
VOLUNTEER
  • Active volunteer leaders and Board members may claim PDUs for their services. Select the Volunteer category box
  • For Organization/Group field, enter “PMI Silicon Valley Chapter”
  • For Volunteer Course field, enter your volunteer role at the PMISV chapter
  • Complete all the required fields on the form
  • For PDUs, the amount of PDUs should reflect the volunteering effort you contributed. Note: There is a 25 PDUs max limit for each certificate renewal cycle, based on certificate types. Visit the CCRS Program flying for more information
  • Select Submit
