Workshop Description:
Decades of research – as well as common sense – suggest that unmotivated people working in unhealthy workplaces are less
productive, less innovative, and less creative. But, although it’s wellknown how to engage employees and create healthy work environments, employee engagement globally is only about 15%, with Japan at ashocking 6% of employees engaged! Why? Organizational culture! PeterDrucker reportedly said “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.” An organization’s culture is as invisible as the air that we breathe, and as inescapable as gravity. And it directly impacts everything that is done in those organizations. Unfortunately no one feels personally responsible for creating the culture!
Let’s be clear - WE are creating these workplace cultures! The upside of this is that we also have the power to change it for the better. Come explore the dark side of organizations, and the bright future available to those who are determined to “lead from any chair” to re-shape their organizations and generate great results by design. Strengthen your ability to lead your team in ways that engages people and connects them to a purpose beyond profit and a mission that matters, and enables you to avoid failing for these self-imposed causes:
- Fear of Failure
- Aversion to Planning
- Instinct for Competition
- Learned Helplessness
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand how leaders are impacted by, and contribute to, an organization’s culture.
- Learn to overcome the top four completely predictable and avoidable causes of failure in global teams.
- Practice one of the most powerful approaches for engaging your people and your team.
- Key factors required for employee engagement, and the sorry state of low engagement globally.
- How to “lead from any chair”, without position or title, to make a positive and meaningful difference.
- Why even executives don’t feel responsible for this tragic loss of productivity.
Workshop Instructor: Kimberly Wiefling
Kimberly Wiefling is a well known Author and Transformational leader who “shocks” people in to fixing predictable and avoidable leadership, team and org culture issues that damage or destroy companies. She’s held leadership positions ranging from NPI Program Manager to VP of Program Management and Organizational Effectiveness . She has helped companies from startups to Global-1000 successfully grow and – more importantly - SCALE. She enables leaders to avoid or fix the most common causes of ailure in global teams, problems that damage or destroy companies, along with billions in shareholder value. A physicist by education, she has found that many of these are “human” problems that don’t require “rocket science”. All that’s required to achieve significant positive impact in many cases is to make common sense into common PRACTICE. DEEP EXPERIENCE in GLOBAL COMPANIES. Kimberly has worked in the US, Europe and Asia, primarily with culturally diverse groups of employees in globalizing Japanese companies. Her superpower is bringing people with diverse backgrounds, cultures & styles together, connecting them across borders, boundaries and barriers of every kind, to achieve what seems impossible, but is merely difficult, and which none could achieve alone
● RETAINED KEY EMPLOYEES: Reduced voluntary turnover in Japan’s#1 most innovative company of 2019 from 22% to less than 1% annually in a target audience of 250 managers over 5 years, and to 12% in their direct reports.
● IMPROVED MANUFACTURABILITY & AFR: Reduced production time of an HP mass spec from 35 to 5 days, and reduced the AFR by more than half, through process optimization and an R&D NPI redesign team she led.
● OPTIMIZED NPI PIPELINE: Unclogged new product development
processes in a company with over 300 engineers through strategic prioritization & resource allocation in alignment with company strategies.
● INCUBATED INNOVATION: Half of ~80 projects launched in these programs were partially or fully implemented.
