Description:

The purpose of this course is to the techniques necessary for aligning expectations in an agile and non-agile environment.  The course begins with a discussion of the need for managing by acceptance criteria.  It includes a walk through the four principles of Management by Acceptance (MBA) and the associated techniques for fulfilling those principles.  The course ends with practice giving feedback based upon the results. The course is intended to give managers the techniques that they can use to establish and manage expectations amongst the organization.

This is a hands-on, interactive, collaborative workshop.  Very little lecture.  Students must be prepared to work with others in groups.  Students are encouraged to bring actual goals, work items that need to be described, and metric needs to class so that we can work on real-life examples.

 Takeaways:

  •  How MBA counteracts our natural instincts
  •  Learn why acceptance criteria need to precede any discussions on tasks
  •  Techniques for establishing mutual expectations
  •  Practice establishing feedback based on results
  •  Techniques for changing the environment to make it more conducive for productivity
  •  How to use the acceptance criteria template to solidify expectations

Brian Levy is the President of BridgePort Digital, a digit transformation firm specializing in Lean, Agile and DevOps transformations that have measurable results to a company’s bottom line.  While others in the industry have avoided metrics, Brian has been able to consistently improve productivity by over 30% within 6 months of operation.  He’s accomplished this through coaching executives through strategic planning and the pioneering techniques of Management by Acceptance.  As an avid fan of continuous improvement, Brian often takes the time to engage in executive coaching personally in order to learn new skills to transfer to his employees.  However, his real joy is in putting his Scrum@Scale Trainer status to use in the classroom and training others in the techniques which lead to organizational optimization. That joy is most often utilized via training underrepresented minorities in careers related to software development and using my 8-year old daughter to explain Management by Acceptance concepts.
