Course Description:

  • Key elements of a Kanban system, such as commitment points, work item types, classes of service, explicit policies, cadences
  • Kanban system mechanics, such as pull, replenishment, delivery
  • Key Kanban system indicators, such as lead time and cumulative-flow diagram
  • STATIK: the systems thinking approach to introducing Kanban
  • Kanban case study
  • Creating context for change
  • Demand analysis
  • Workflow visualization
  • Discovering and designing classes of service
  • Replenishment and delivery cadences
  • Kanban system visualization

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will learn how to design a Kanban system and initiate change with Kanban. They will learn the basic concepts of flow, pull, and collaborative improvement. At the end of the training, participants will understand:

  • How to work with shifting priorities
  • How to deal with interrupt work and multi-tasking
  • How to deal with important but not time-critical work
  • How to avoid having work pile up in one place (or time) while there is a lack of work in another place
  • How to create flow in the work, the information to perform the work, and the teams that do the work

What is Special? 

Participants will receive a KMP1 certificate of course completion from Lean Kanban University (LKU) as well as membership of LKU. The Certificate is for lifetime and doesn’t need to be renewed.

Project Management Institute (PMI): 16 PDUs (Professional Development Units).

Pre-Requisites

Attendees are expected to have read "Kanban: Successful Evolutionary Change for Your Technology Business" by David J Anderson, or "Kanban from the Inside" by Mike Burrows.

Attendees are also expected to have read the eBook 'Essential Kanban Condensed' by David J Anderson and Andy Carmichael, which is free and publicly available on the LKU website.

Prior attendance at a Team Kanban Practitioner 1-day course is recommended but not required

Additional Benefits

All attendees receive a free electronic copy of either Kanban by David J. Anderson or Kanban from the Inside by Mike Burrows. In addition, you will receive a physical copy of 1 other book of your choice from our list of recommended reading. You will choose a book after successfully completing the course.

About the Instructor:

Padmini has been working as a change agent with organizations since 1998. She is a certified APM from Stanford University, accredited Kanban Trainer from Lean Kanban University, a Certified Scrum Master, SPC 5.0 from Scaled Agile and PMI member. For the last 15 years, she has been the CEO of CyberVardan LLC, consulting for various companies in the Silicon Valley like Microsoft, Apple, Agilent, Sony and many startups She has a solid track record in delivering projects using agile methods in cloud infrastructure integration programs, mobile software, and bioscience. Padmini is passionate about building relationships across the organization and helping to create and foster a mindset of continuous process improvement that is founded upon the values of quality, trust and respect.
