PM Insights-Fremont: Resource Planning-Who cares for resources anyway?
PM Insights-Fremont: Resource Planning-Who cares for resources anyway?
On most IT projects, the people who actually do the work are the primary costs and the driver for success…or failure. Not having the right people available when needed is a primary cause for project plans to run aground. By judicious use of Microsoft Project and Project Server, resource information can be brought to light.
Takeaways:
- People are the primary resource on any IT project and are the reason for success or failure
- Resources are usually shared across multiple projects; visibility at an Enterprise level requires a Project Server environment
- Everyone in the resource chain needs to participate; Project Managers, Resource Managers, Portfolio Management and individual resources
