Gone are the days when products engineering called the shots when to release. What took years for new products release, are now measured in days. What took months for updates occur in minutes! Customer responsiveness is the key to successful products delivery – whether it is software, hardware, or anything else. Building a capability to release products on demand and enabling that ability within an organization is the prime goal for DevOps. DevOps is a mindset, a culture and a set of technical practices. It provides communication, integration, automation, and close cooperation among all the people needed to plan, develop, test, deploy, release, and maintain all the products.
What does it take to embrace the DevOps mindset? Is the responsibility limited to certain people in the organization, or needs broadly embedded into the company culture to make it successful? How do you change the company culture? Let us also look at how the world has embraced DevOps rapidly and what we can do immediately in our organizations to be successful.
