Description:  

Breaking through the Glass Ceiling

Have you missed a promotion due to what has been acknowledged as "the glass ceiling"?  While this phenomenon has been brought to light in the '70s, invisible barriers and bias continue to exist preventing qualified individuals (women and minorities alike) from advancing upward in their organizations regardless of their achievements.

Expert Panelists:  

 Catherine Tonne, PMP, M.B.A., SAPM, CSM, CSPO

 Catherine-TonneCatherine has exceptional experience in project, program, and portfolio execution and leadership, including 10 years of personnel management. She has held senior level positions of Senior Program Manager, PMO Director and Senior Director at multiple entities including Visa, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Northland Controls. She has extensive experience in creating and growing PMOs and has built and led successful Business Analysis practices. She is well versed in traditional and modern Project Management methodologies including Agile, Waterfall and Hybrid approaches. Catherine has created innovative processes for portfolio ranking, project complexity scoring and business requirements prioritization ratings. Her diverse industry experience includes environmental, management consulting, aerospace, physical security, IT, product development and launch, telecommunications, high performance networks, academia/science research, financial services, and payment processing. Catherine has been active in PMI, holding several positions on the SFBAC (NCC) Board of Directors and multiple PMI International Board appointed leadership positions and strategic committee chairs.

 

Ramya Kailas, MBA, PMP

Ramya is a Lead Technical Project Manager with Nestle USA. She is a highly influential leader with over 15 years of experience and is known for her successful and proven track record in Data, Leadership and Project Management. She has led several cost-cutting and revenue growing project opportunities for her employer, while leading a wide array of diverse teams towards successful business results. Her organizational skills, collaborative and measured approach, and extensive experience have given her a unique ability to connect with associates in a meaningful way and effectively lead passionate and energetic teams to success. Ramya has also been involved with many DE&I leadership initiatives within Nestle and has mentored several colleagues across the company and community throughout their careers. She was recently promoted to VP of Communications at PMI-OC after serving as the Director of Knowledge Management for 5 years. A graduate of UCLA & USC, Ramya is a dual degree holder, an MBA graduate and a certified Project Management Professional.

 

Narmela Sargis, MBA, PMP, CSM

Narmela-SargisNarmela is a Senior Program Manager / Portfolio Manager with over 20 years of experience working for Fortune 500 companies.  Currently, she is managing the migration of over 700 applications to the cloud.  She has been a volunteer with PMI-OC chapter for the past six years

 

 

 

 

 

 

Carol Flint, Senior Director of Program Management

Carol-FlintAs Senior Director of Program Management for the Wired and Wireless Group (WWG) of Xilinx, a company at the forefront of 5G technology, Carol is responsible for the smooth execution of all the WWG product development and processes. She leads a Program Management team to deliver large, complex projects and programs, ranging from silicon and board design to SW/IP development to customer engagements.  In addition, Carol is also responsible for training new project managers and documenting project management processes at Xilinx.  She has been a Program Manager at Xilinx for the past 20 years and previous to that, was a Program Manager at Hewlett Packard.

 

Meeting Leader: Jane Yee

Jane-Yee-photoJane has more than 10 years experience in program management, product development, customer services, operations, and vendor management. She is a certified PMP with experience in New Product Introduction (NPI). Operations, and Customer Services.  She has solid understandings in business and product life cycles, from idea through development, verification, validation, release, support, and end-of-service (EOS).  She has managed programs with internal stakeholders and external contractual customers in varies fields: SYSTEM, SW, HW, Operations, infrastructure, OEM, ODM, supplier, Partner, and Joint Ventures. She has managed mission critical, cross functional programs interfacing with end users and successfully revamped engineering & operational processes.  She holds a BSEE from Tufts University with a minor in Engineering Management.  She taught a PMI exam preparation course for PM World and has experience at HP, Pearson, Nvidia, Cadence, and other high-tech firms.  Her extra curriculum includes gardening, reading cook books, scrap booking, various church ministries, and enjoying a good conversation.
