Fellow Chapter Members,

Warm welcome to the new volunteer leaders and greetings to all PMISV Chapter members. In April, I had the pleasure of evaluating the Project Management course to be offered at Cogswell University, Sunnyvale and deliver a guest lecture on Project Management at San Jose State University. I have offered the students who wish to join the Chapter a Chapter Guest Pass. I have invited the students an opportunity to join our Next Gen Leadership program. We have started the Next Gen Leadership Program and we have a few members who have reached out for details and confident this program will kick off formally in the next few weeks. This month we had the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and recognized several Volunteer Leaders who have excelled in their Volunteer Leader role. Congratulations to all the Winners. We have conducted a free workshop on ‘Leadership Story Telling’ for the Chapter Volunteer Leaders and I am happy to know that the participants have got immense value from the workshop.

If you have ideas or would like to part of the Next Gen Leadership Program please contact me at president@pmisv.org

Please encourage veterans and active-duty personnel in your network to take advantage of the opportunity to register for the Chapter evening events at no cost. To make this more effective, we are looking for a Veteran to lead this opportunity. Please drop an email to vp_operations@pmisv.org

All Chapter active Volunteer Leaders, save the date Saturday June 9 for Q2 Leadership Program which will feature a Senior Leader from NetApp (The Authority in Data), a Technology Company in Sunnyvale as the Featured Speaker.

Starting this newsletter, I plan to bring to you how each board member is contributing to the Chapter with their dedicated team of volunteer leaders. This month I have Mr. Ajay Navaratna, VP Operations detail out how his team is working hard to bring value to your Chapter membership.

PMISV Operations team ensures that we bring quality programs every week to our members at various locations in the Silicon Valley. At last count, there are 17 programs in a month available to our members not counting special events for our fabulous volunteers and volunteer leaders. Here I provide brief intro to our fabulous events - Events Calendar on PMISV website has details about registration and agenda.

Career Development workshop– On second Saturday (sometimes on Sundays too) of every month, our members get opportunity to attend and benefit from 8 hours of hands on classroom training provided by experts on relevant topics based on PMI Talent triangle.

PM Insight events – PMISV teams at Foster City, Fremont and Sunnyvale locations host 2-hour evening sessions where expert speakers share latest industry trends in the form of hands on interactive presentations based on PMI Talent Triangle.

Breakfast events – Monthly the chapter holds seven geographically dispersed (Project Management) PM Breakfast Meetings in San Francisco’s Peninsula, South Bay and East Bay. Each of these is a small gathering (10 to 15) project managers for a discussion of the current PM environment, sharing of information, and brainstorming of current challenges. The meeting's agenda is the topics brought by the attendees. Every meeting is facilitated by a chapter volunteer.

PMO Round table Breakfast at Cupertino The Chapter holds a Breakfast Round Table focused upon the PMO Practice and Operations once a month. This round table group provides a general forum to discuss various issues, problems, and challenges related to organizing, operating and managing a PMO within any organization. The format is open, with round-robin topics decided by the attendees each month.

Job Search breakfasts provide job search support for Silicon Valley project management professionals to help our members in transition improve their probability of landing a future job. In conjunction with the chapter's PM Insight events and Career Development Workshops, the Job Search Group focuses on providing:

  1. a) The skills and tools necessary for successful personal marketing and job search
  2. b) Opportunities to share job market intelligence and strategies
  3. c) A forum for mutual support, accountability, and inspiration.

Women in Project Management - The Forum’s mission is to provide a community for women interested in the Project Management profession, focused on mutual growth and sharing of knowledge through informal meetings, networking and mentoring. Through mutual sharing the group seeks to provide insights into Project Management issues common to multiple industries. This interaction enables participants to make significant positive changes to their work environment.

I am very proud of my team of dedicated volunteers who support each of the above events and Speakers Bureau volunteers who short list and select quality speakers for our Insight and workshop events. Look forward to seeing all of you members in one of these events soon!! And remember - your feedback about our events is most valuable to keep bringing you events of highest value to the Chapter Project Management Community.
